Overview
Several Malaysian Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have begun blocking SMTP Port 25 to combat network spam. If you are unable to send emails, you must update your email client settings to use our secure alternative port.
???? Action Required: Update Your Settings
If you are experiencing connection issues, please update your Outgoing Mail (SMTP) settings in your email client (Outlook, Mac Mail, Thunderbird, etc.) as follows:
| Setting | Value |
| SMTP Server | [mail.domainname.my] |
| Port Number | 465 |
| Encryption Method | SSL/TLS (Implicit) |
| Authentication | Required (user@domainname.my) |
Note for IT Administrators: Please ensure your corporate firewall allows outbound traffic on TCP Port 465 to ensure seamless delivery.
Understanding the Change: Port 465 vs. Port 587
While we have deployed Port 465 as the primary solution, you may also see references to Port 587. Here is how they differ:
-
Port 465 (SMTPS - Recommended): Uses Implicit TLS. This means the connection is encrypted from the very first second. It is the modern standard recommended by RFC 8314 for secure email submission.
-
Port 587 (Submission): Uses STARTTLS. The connection starts as plain text and "upgrades" to a secure connection. While widely used, it is slightly less secure than 465 because the initial "handshake" is unencrypted.
Which one should I use?
-
Use Port 465: If you prioritize high security and are using modern email clients or server-side applications.
-
Use Port 587: As a fallback if your specific legacy software does not support Implicit SSL/TLS.
